Is XIII a reference to anything? Final Fantasy VII? Kingdom Hearts?

It is the Codename from Nanaki (The Red Cat) from Final Fantasy 7. First when you meet him he just has a Tatoo with the number XIII and thats it. His name is Red XIII but i prefer XIII as stand alone ^^ Later in the Game you find out that his real name is Nanaki.
